Africa Speaks is the incredible energy infused full-length album from Santana released in 2019. It features the soulful vocals of Afro-Latin singer Buika, and was produced by legendary producer Rick Rubin.  Inspired by the melodies, sounds and rhythms of Africa, Santana has created a truly memorable and powerful experience that also promises to be one of his most groundbreaking albums yet. Santana and his eight-piece band (featuring his wife, Cindy Blackman Santana, on drums), convened at Rubin’s Shangri La Studios in Malibu, and in a joyous and stimulating 10-day period they recorded an astonishing number of tracks, many of them in one take. The album debuted at number three on the US Billboard200.

Check out the reviews:

Africa Speaks ranks with the fiercest albums in Santana’s 50-year career…Through most of the album, Santana, 71, plays guitar with a slash-and-burn attack. Buika’s voice, which carries the taut, intricate arabesques and throat-tearing passion of flamenco toward rock peaks, is every bit its equal.”

The New York Times

“Best record in decades… He’s on fire.”

NPR All Songs Considered

“Santana launched their career half a century ago with a cover of Nigerian percussionist Babatunde Olatunji’s ‘Jingo’ and now, for their 25th album, they’ve created a love letter to Africa. Although Africa Speaks sounds undeniably like a Santana album, with Carlos’ fiery guitar bursts and reedy-voiced singer Buika’s Spanish-language exclamaciones, it explodes from the start with African rhythms and a unique freedom to the way the group plays the songs.”
